Gandhi Jayanti at Tavistock Square

The Indian High Commission and India League are organising Gandhi Jayanti, on Friday 2nd October 2015, at Tavistock Square, London, from 11am onwards.

The event will be opened to the general public and will be graced by the Indian High Commissioner, Ranjan Mathai, as well as many other dignitaries.

Gandhi Jayanti, is commemorated to celebrated Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, also famously known as Mahatma Gandhi's birthday. Gandhi was born on 2nd October 1869, in Gujarat, India, and this year will be his 146th birth anniversary.

Mahatma Gandhi was known for his principles of Satyagraha (Truth) and Ahinsa (non-violence) which aided India to gain her independence against the British Empire.

In India, he was termed as the Father of the Nation, addressed to him by Subhash Chandra Bose, for his selfless devotion towards the people of India.
