Nominations for the Asian Achievers Awards Open

Nominations for the Asian Achievers Awards 2016 are now open. Attended by Lords and Ladies, Members of Parliament and celebrities alike the awards is a key event in the social calendar. The awards are hosted by and the highlight of the Asian Business Publications, currently in its 16th year, to be held at Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane.

The night is dedicated to recognise the outstanding work of individuals and acknowledges the accomplishments of the finest across the Asian community reflecting the publication’s 44 year service for the community. The event is consistently favoured by the community and is the most prestigious and highly respected awards ceremony on the calendar.

This year, the theme of the awards is ‘Professional of the Year’ to emphasis the country’s role of employing a vast number of Asians within various professions. Many of them occupy senior executive and board level positions. Ingrained in the Asian culture and work ethic are traits like hard work, determination and the passion to succeed against all odds. They bring with them technical expertise, entrepreneurial prowess and visionary leadership qualities. This year’s Asian Achievers Awards will lay special emphasis on the significance to the contribution made by British Asians to their professions and salute their success.

The nominee submissions will be decided by an independent panel of judges comprising of industry experts, professionals, journalists, academics and members of Parliament. After careful deliberation of the nominations, they will prepare a shortlist of leading lights and select the worthy winners from among them.

The list of award categories include Sports Personality of the Year, Business Person of the Year, Professional of the Year, Achievement in Community Service, Achievement in Media, Arts and Culture, Woman of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year, Uniformed and Civil Services, Lifetime Achievement Award.

Some of the winners last year were noted author Romesh Gunasekera, human rights campaigner Jasvinder Sanghera, cricketer Moeen Ali, businessman and philanthropist Lord Rumi Verjee, and Lance Corporal Tuljung Gurung, awarded the Military Cross for his heroics in the Afghan front.
