The Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School is delighted to celebrate another outstanding set of GCSE results across the academic spectrum for our 2017 Year 11s. With one-fifth of this year’s cohort achieving 10 A*s or more and 39% achieving 9 A* or more this year group is to be warmly congratulated.
STEM subjects continue to achieve the highest levels of excellence demonstrated in the A* successes. 133 out of 147 (91%) taking Physics achieved A*s. A record 88% taking Chemistry received A* and 85% in Biology. In Mathematics, 142 out of 163 (87%) achieved the A*. Considerable strength continues to be demonstrated across the academic spectrum. The School’s Classicists are to be applauded for their record success in 75% achieving A* grades in Greek and 70% in Latin. Habs Historians achieved an excellent 74.3% at A*.
Headmaster Peter Hamilton congratulated every pupil who sat his exams this year. He said: “Hard work, dedication and enjoyment of learning is clearly evident for both students and dedicated staff in these excellent results. We are particularly proud that we can offer exceptional choice. Boys have unrivalled opportunities to explore and excel, whatever their individual talents and interests.”
The breadth and success of our academic curriculum is clearly evident. Special congratulations to students who achieved over 90% A-A* in: Computing & ICT (93%), Design Engineering (98%), English Literature (90%), French (91%), Geography (94%), Music (96%) and Sports Science (100%).
Obaydh Khan, who achieved 10 A*s, said: “I’m thrilled with my results and relieved that the hard work has paid off this year. I’d like to thank my teachers, who have helped me immensely. There’s a real sense of community spirit at Habs and this has undoubtedly been a positive influence on all of our results as a year group.”
Vivek Gudi, who received 9 A*s and 1 A, said: “Once I opened the envelope I felt extremely happy. The teachers have been so helpful and my parents have supported me a lot. I’m now looking forward to starting Sixth Form at Habs.”
Alex Curtis, who was awarded 10*s, said: “I’m delighted with my grades and I’m grateful to the teachers at Habs, as well as my parents for their continued encouragement. It’s nice to see my results after the effort I’ve put in.”
Justin Ooi, who also achieved 9 A*s and 1 A, said: “I’m very happy with my results and relieved to see the hard work is paid off. I’d like to thank my parents, teachers and also the pastoral support staff at Habs.”
It is important to remember that Habs students have achieved these superb results alongside their involvement in the extensive co-curricular programmes offered in Sport, Music, Drama and more.
Peter Hamilton added: “We are about an all-round, holistic education. The boys have relished every challenge that the School can offer them, both academic and co-curricular. They should be rightly proud of their achievements this year and I look forward to welcoming them back in September to start their Sixth Form studies. Congratulations again, Habs Boys!”
