Navita Yadav, board trustee of AMREF (African Medical and Research Foundation) Health Africa UK and Europe CEO of Apex Group hosted a unique cricket reception and fundraiser for AMREF Health Africa at Alfred Dunhill Club in London on July 10. Cricket stalwarts like Sir Vivian Richards, Sir Clive Lloyd, Allan Lamb, Devon Malcolm and a number of senior professionals from the finance, industry and the art attended the function.

At the event, Navita Yadav said, “AMREF is the largest health organisation in Africa, founded in 1957 in Kenya. Each year it reaches out to 30 million people across 35 countries with programmes to increase access to health services like safe water, sanitation, malaria and TB prevention, childhood and Covid vaccinations and other neglected tropical diseases. The work involves a huge commitment at all system levels, from volunteers to specialist surgeons. AMREF also supports governments at local and national levels to advocate for health resources,” she added.

The highlights included a special Q&A with Vivian Richards and Allan Lamb. Cricket pioneers take a trip down memory lane. Vivian revealed why he never wore helmets while batting. He said, “The passion for the game I felt was such that I wouldn't mind dying playing something that I love. If this is what I chose and I go down here, what better way is there to go.”
AMREF Health Africa’s chief executive Camilla Knox-Peebles and director of fundraising Matt Wenham shared more details about the work and challenges.
