Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Punjab Kings in a dramatic match to join the 10-point logjam in the 2023 IPL points table. KKR chased down 180 at the Eden Gardens to secure their second consecutive victory of the season and storm to fifth in the standings. KKR captain Nitish Rana had set the tone for the win with 51 off 38 balls before Andre Russell smashed 42 off 21 balls. The onus was on Rinku Singh as KKR needed 2 runs off the final ball; he hit a boundary off Arshdeep Singh as KKR won a nail biter.
Titans beat Lucknow by 56 runs
Gujarat Titans defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 56 runs in their match. Sent in to bat, GT posted an imposing 227 for two. The hosts then stopped LSG at 171 for seven in the stipulated 20 overs.
For LSG, Quinton de Kock was the top scorer with a 41-ball 70, while Kyle Mayers made 48 off 32 deliveries. Mohit Sharma finished with excellent figures of 4/29 in four overs for GT. Earlier, defending champions GT were off to a blistering start with both Wriddhiman Saha (81 off 43 balls) and Shubman Gill (94 not out off 51) going after the bowling from the word go, helping the team amass 78 runs in the powerplay. The two were involved in an opening partnership of 142 runs in just 12.1 overs
Hyderabad claim dramatic win
Abdul Samad spoiled Rajasthan Royals party by hitting a last-ball six to guide Sunrisers Hyderabad to a 4-wicket victory at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Sunday. Bottom-placed SRH halted their losing sequence by chasing a daunting target of 215 with a sensational late burst. Abdul Samad struck a match-winning 17 off just 7 balls to give his team the much-needed win. The Jammu youngster slammed a six at long-on when 4 runs were needed from the final ball. It was the third consecutive defeat for the Royals as they remained on 10 points after 11 matches, while SRH registered their fourth win in the competition from 10 ties. Sandeep Sharma was again given the charge to bowl the last over when SRH needed 17. Samad scored 2 on the first ball and then clobbered a six to long-on.
Delhi chase down 82-run target
Phil Salt emerged as the standout performer of the evening as Delhi Capitals secured a seven-wicket win against Royal Challengers Bangalore at home on Saturday. The opener scored 87(45) as Delhi completed the stiff 182 chase in 16.4 overs. He along with his skipper David Warner got Delhi off to an explosive start and added 60 in 5.1 overs before Warner fell for 22 (14). Mitchell Marsh then joined the proceedings and kept the ante. He was dismissed for 26(17), following which Rilee Rossouw walked out. The batter scored an unbeaten 35 off 22 balls. Earlier, powerful fifties by Virat Kohli and Mahipal Lomror drove RCB to 181/4 in 20 overs after they opted to bat. Lomror returned unbeaten on 54 off 29 balls, while Kohli scored 55 (46).
Chennai beat Mumbai
Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by six wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Chasing a target of 140 runs, CSK reached to 140/4 in 17.4 overs, with Devon Conway smacking 44 off 42 balls. Meanwhile, Conway's opening partner Ruturaj Gaikwad registered 30 runs off 16 deliveries and Shivam Dube played an unbeaten knock of 26 runs off 18 balls. For MI's bowling department, Piyush Chawla took two wickets. Initially, Nehal Wadhera's knock of 64 off 51 balls took MI to 139/8 in 20 overs. Matheesha Pathirana was in hot form for CSK's bowling department, taking three wickets. Deepak Chahar and Tushar Deshpande bagged two dismissals each.
