The Indian High Commissioner hosts reception in London for Indian Women's Cricket Team

High Commissioner of India HE Y.K. Sinha and wife Girija Sinha hosted a reception for the Indian Women's Cricket team at Nehru hall, India House on Monday 24 July. The whole room filled with applauds as the team walked in, looking unsure of what to expect from the guests.

High Commissioner congratulated the team for their fabuluous performance in World Cup 2017 and lauded its members as role models for generations in India. He said that the team had given Women's Cricket the much needed and long deserved recognition in the world of cricket and wished them the best for the future. The High Commissioner who was present at the finals on Sunday in London with wife, especially mentioned Harmanpreet Kaur's defining knock of 171 against Australia in the semi-final and Jhulan Goswami’s bowling while praising the team's efforts. He said, “The knock of 171 was a mix of Tendulkar and Kohli. In cricket, you win some and you lose some. But you brought glory to India and to women’s cricket. You have finally placed women’s cricket at par with men’s cricket.”

Captain Mithali Raj told the audience, “It has still not sunk in. The match was in our hands, but we will learn from experience. We have presented a different face of women’s cricket. It will help future generations and help women in India to take up sport as a career.”
