India shines at Special Olympics 2015

World Summer Games organised in Los Angeles, United States saw our country perform exceptionally well. Among the 6500 athletes participating from 177 different countries, India was represented by 275 athletes in 14 disciplines.

The athletic delegation sent from the country did the entire nation proud as they returned home with 173 medals; 47 gold, 54 silver and 72 bronze. India won 47 medals in athletics and 39 medals in roller skating making a massive contribution to the total number. India’s performance is ranked third in the Special Olympics, after USA and China.

Golfer Ranvir Singh Saini created history by becoming the first Indian Golfer to win a gold medal in the Games. Roller Skaters won a total of 39 medals, including 10 Gold, 17 Silver and 12 Bronze. This is the first time that India won such a large number of medals.

The Special Olympics were held from July 25 to August 2, with the ceremony opening attended by Stevie Wonder and Michelle Obama.
