Gujarat Titans were on Monday knocked out of the IPL 2024 after their penultimate match against table-toppers Kolkata Knight Riders was called off because of persistent rain at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Monday.

The Titans (11 from 13 matches) and Knight Riders (19 from 13 matches) shared the points. The no-result means KKR confirmed a top-two spot. Earlier, the city witnessed dust storms and a gust of wind resulting in low visibility in the evening. This was followed by persistent spells of rain throughout the night, rendering the playing area unplayable. Water puddles were formed near the 30-yard circle.

RCB rediscover the groove

Royal Challengers Bengaluru remain in its quest to reach the IPL playoffs, beating Delhi Capitals by 47 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday. In a must-win game for both sides, Faf du Plessis’ men defended a modest-looking 187 to record its fifth win on the trot and rise up to fifth in the table (12 points). DC lost Impact Player David Warner early, but Jake Fraser-McGurk caned Mohammed Siraj for a six and two fours to commence the pursuit in fiery fashion. But his run out left DC reeling at 24 for three.

CSK remain in the hunt

Chennai Super Kings beat Rajasthan Royals by five wickets in its last Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 league match at home on Sunday. The victory was CSK’s seventh in the tournament in 13 games and helped the defending champion move to the third spot in the standings. With one game left, against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 18, Chennai can still get to 16 points, which could confirm its position in the top-four. However, with Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants also in the hunt to accumulate 16 points, Chennai’s fate will hinge on Net Run Rate (NRR) calculations.

KKR down Mumbai, enter playoffs

Kolkata Knight Riders beat Mumbai Indians by 18 runs at Eden Gardens to seal IPL 2024 playoff berth. Getting an invitation to bat first, KKR posted 157 for 7 as the match was reduced to 16-overs-a-side due to a delayed start due to rain. With 42 off 21, Venkatesh Iyer was the top run-scorer for KKR, while Piyush Chawla and Jasprit Bumrah picked two wickets each for MI. In the chase, Mumbai Indians started well but faltered during the middle overs to end at 139 for 8 in stipulated 16 overs.

SRH chase down 166-run target in 9.4 overs

On a wicket where Lucknow Super Giants batters struggled to score, Travis Head (89*) and Abhishek Sharma (75) put on a batting masterclass to power Sunrisers Hyderabad to a crushing 10-wicket victory on Wednesday. Chasing a modest 165/4, thanks largely to Ayush Badoni’s (55*) and Nicholas Pooran’s (48) stand of 99 runs for the fifth wicket, Sunrisers chased down the total in a mere 9.4 overs. Their seventh win propelled them to third spot in the points table. Head equalled the record for fastest half-century for SRH in 16 balls, joining his partner Abhishek, who had hit a 16-ball half century against Mumbai Indians here earlier this season.
