Delhi Capitals produced an excellent bowling performance as they recorded their second win a row in the ongoing IPL 2023. DC opted to bat first and were reduced to 62/5 thanks to Washington Sundar taking three wickets in an over including the scalps of David Warner, Sarfaraz Khan and Aman Khan. However, Axar Patel and Manish Pandey repaired the damage with a solid partnership for the sixth wicket. Each scored 34 runs. Eventually, DC finished with a respectable 144/9. In their reply, SRH struggled for a good start and lost Harry Brook cheaply. Mayank Agarwal started well with a boundary to his name in each of the Powerplay overs. He then fell on 49 while trying to up the scoring rate. DC then tightened their grip with quick strikes in the middle overs before Henrich Klaasen and Sundar revived the chase. Klaasen then fell on 31 before DC held on to keep SRH to 137/6.
Bangalore score over Rajasthan
Irrespective of the bowling attack, defending a score at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium is mostly tricky. Given the depth in Rajasthan Royals’ batting line-up, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s 189/5 seemed achievable on Sunday. At one point, Royals looked comfortable with Yashasvi Jaiswal (47) and Devdutt Padikkal (52) keeping them on course. After 10 overs, they were 92/1. But pacer Harshal Patel (3/32), the Impact Player, and Wanindu Hasaranga bowled some tight middle overs coupled with the visitors’ meltdown, which brought the equation down to a tough 61 off four overs. Royals fell short as big hitters Sanju Samson (22) and Shimron Hetmyer (3) were left high and dry in the chase. Though RCB bowlers came good in crunch situations, the foundation was laid by Du Plessis and Maxwell.
Chennai thrash Kolkata
It was Chennai Super Kings all the way in Kolkata. With the Eden Gardens wearing the colour yellow, it was a ‘home away from home’ for the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led side which thrashed Kolkata Knight Riders by 49 runs. The visitors more or less sealed the tie in the first innings itself by setting up 235 for four, the highest score in this IPL, after being asked to bat first. While KKR suffered their fourth straight defeat this season, the win took CSK to the top of the table with 10 points at the midway stage of the league. It was the usual picture for KKR this season. Their bowlers once again went for runs in the Powerplay and they lost both their openers - their fifth pair this season - inside the first six overs. In contrast, openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway once again built a solid foundation for Ajinkya Rahane and Shivam Dube to launch an onslaught for CSK later in the innings.
Arshdeep swings it Kings way
It’s not often easy to silence a 35,000-strong partisan crowd, rooting for the Mumbai Indians, but a sensational final over by Arshdeep Singh, in which he broke the stumps twice in two balls with lethal yorkers, managed to do that in a sudden manner to fashion a thrilling 13-run win for the Punjab Kings. With Tim David (25 not out) MI were the favourites, needing 16 off the final over when Arshdeep came on to bowl. However, the India left-arm seamer shattered the middle sticks of Tilak Varma (3) and ‘impact player’ Nehal Wadhera (0) off his third and fourth balls to seal the fate of the match, with the wounded hosts left to get 15 off 2 balls and a stunned crowd already making its way out of the stadium. Conceding just 2 runs in his match-winning last over, Arshdeep, who had earlier taken the key wickets of Ishan Kishan (1) and a rampaging Suryakumar Yadav (57) finished with fabulous figures of 4-29 in 4 overs to emerge as the standout bowler by far on a wicket where every other bowler went for plenty.
Gujarat Titans beat Lucknow
KL Rahul managed to snatch defeat from jaws of victory with a baffling batting approach as defending champions Gujarat Titans beat Lucknow Super Giants by seven runs in a low-scoring IPL thriller. Chasing target of 136 on a sluggish pitch, LSG were cruising along at 105 for 1 after 14 overs with 31 needed off 36 deliveries but ended at 128 for 7 at the end of 20 overs. Mohit Sharma (2/17 in 3 overs) required to defend only 12 off the final over and he removed rival captain Rahul (68 off 61 balls) and kept hitting the blockhole length to conceded only five runs in the end with another three wickets lost in the process. Rahul got 50 off 33 balls and then consumed another 28 deliveries for his 18. There were two 50 plus stands with Kyle Mayers (24 off 19 balls) and Krunal Pandya (23 off 23 balls) but in the end even the biggest Titans fans would agree that 136 was difficult to defend.
CSK beat Sunrisers
Chennai Super Kings defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Chasing a target of 135 runs, CSK reached 138/3 in 18.4 overs, with Devon Conway smacking an unbeaten knock of 77 runs off 57 balls. For SRH's bowling department, Mayank Markande took two wickets. Initially, SRH posted 134/7 in 20 overs, with Abhishek Sharma slamming 34 runs off 26 balls. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja was in hot form and took three wickets for CSK.
