In a big boost to Team India’s plans for the ODI World Cup in India in October-November, fit again pacer Jasprit Bumrah is back after almost a year, and that too as a captain, for the T20Is in Ireland in August. In another piece of good news from the pace bowling department, Prasidh Krishna, who too was suffering from stress fracture of the back like Bumrah, and last played a T20I against Zimbabwe in August 2022, has also returned in the squad, which was announced by the BCCI, for the three-match series in Dublin.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was named captain for the 2023 Asian Games, will be Bumrah’s deputy on the tour. Gaikwad is yet to get a game on the ongoing West Indies tour. Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma and Shivam Dube, who have all been picked for the T20 cricket competition in the Asian Games, have also been selected for Ireland T20Is.
THE SQUAD: Jasprit Bumrah (capt), Ruturaj Gaikwad (vice-capt), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson (wk), Jitesh Sharma (wk), Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Ravi Bishnoi, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan.
