The India-Pakistan group stage match of the 2023 50-over World Cup, which will be hosted by India, will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 15, according to the the schedule released by International Cricket Council (ICC).
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), however, said it needs to get its government clearance for its participation. “The PCB requires the government of Pakistan’s clearance for any tour to India, including the match venues. We are liaising with our government for guidance, and as soon as we hear something from them, we will update the event authority (ICC),” a PCB spokesperson said.
According to the schedule, Ahmedabad will stage the World Cup opener on October 5 between defending champions England and runners-up New Zealand.
The two semifinals will be played in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium (on November 15) and the Eden Gardens in Kolkata (November 16). If Pakistan make it to the semifinals, they will play the last four clash in Kolkata, while India, if they qualify for the semifinals, will play in Mumbai unless they are playing against Pakistan, in which case their match will be moved to Kolkata.
Hosts India will begin their campaign with a clash against Australia on October 8 in Chennai. The World Cup will be played across 10 venues - Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Dharamsala, Delhi, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkata.
