Dr Jagruti Odedra is an Ayurveda Doctor based in Leicester.  She was born and raised in Porbandar, Gujarat, India, she trained at J.S. Ayurveda College, Nadiad at Jamnagar Ayurveda University in 2008.   After qualifying Jagruti moved to the UK in 2010 and started her career as an Ayurveda Doctor at Patanjali Clinic, Leicester for a year before establishing her own Ayurveda Awareness Herbal Clinic in Leicester in 2011.  She opened her second Clinic in 2020 on Leicester’s Golden Mile offering relaxing holistic therapies such as full body massage, Sauna, and Indian Head massage.  Jagruti is married to Satish and they have 2 children Aryan aged 7 and Dylan aged 4 years old.

1)  Which place, or city or country do you most feel at home in?

I spent almost 23 years of my life in Porbandar, Gujarat, India.   Porbandar has been the home where my parents raised me, I have very special memories with my family and friend but I have made Leicester my home and created wonderful new memories with my children.

2) What are your proudest achievements?

My first proudest achievement was getting a place in my desirable field Ayurveda

Last but not least achievement is to spread awareness about the holistic way of Ayurveda by attending community events, arranging lectures in Community Centres and offering herbs and Panchakarma therapies to the needs of people according to their requirements at both above-addressed clinics in Leicester and out of Leicester as well.

3) What inspires you?

I like trying something in a new way, with a new approach, a new idea etc., doing something new, and learning something new is a source of inspiration to me.

4) What has been the biggest obstacle in your career?

In order to have a progressive career, quite often something must take a back seat. For me, it is always a challenge to strike the right balance between family, motherhood responsibilities and work life.

5) Who has been the biggest influence on your career to date?

My biggest influence on me has been my mom who always inspired me to be a humble and independent person. My husband has been the other biggest influence on my career by believing in me and giving me opportunities and space to follow my passion for Ayurveda practice in the UK.

6) What is the best aspect about your current role?

The work I do in Ayurveda has benefited thousands of people in their daily life by adopting Ayurveda as a health solution.  I get to meet some wonderful people and get to see how my work improves their life. It is always wonderful to hear back from patients who I have helped and the changes it has made to their lifestyle.

7) And the worst?

Being a full-time mum, I do have to balance my work and family life. By expanding my clinics I have to offer more of my time to my work. But I feel that women should be empowered to follow their dreams and be successful in everything that they do. But at the same time, I have to balance both and enjoy being a mom as well as a doctor.

8) What are your long term goals?

Want to be a most humble Ayurveda doctor and want to make aware people that Ayurveda is not all about herbs and therapies. It is a science of life, and it teaches us how to balance mind and body spiritually.

I’m originally from India where I had seen many kids who do not have access to education due to poor financial conditions. I have started to help them with the help of my friend but would love to do more for them.

9) If you were Prime Minister, what one aspect would you change?

I cannot imagine myself being anything else except Ayurveda doctor. As it is not a career for me, it is my passion, my hobby and it totally reflects my personality.

10) If you were marooned on a desert island, which historical figure would you like to spend your time with and why.

Mahatma Gandhi comes first in mind who is born in Porbandar, Gujrat, India but if I was marooned on a desert island, I would love to spend time by myself..... As I don’t get enough “me time” from kids, clinic work, and family.
