Madness of woke

I use the term ‘woke’ in as fluid a way as possible. After all, everything it seems is very fluid in the 21st Century. People have made an industry out of making up terms that mean nothing; but allows them the freedom to exercise their fake outrage and empathy at anything and everything. ‘Woke’ it seems is an act of being pretentious about how much you care about a social or political issue. The operative word being, ‘pretentious’. In reality the vast majority of them have very little sense or knowledge on any of the topics they outrage about.

Equalities and human rights have been hijacked by the so-called millennials, the mediawalas, the celebrities and the self-obsessed academics. They shout, scream, protest, riot, vandalise and are ever ready to jump on any bandwagon that happens to be passing by.

‘Woke’ it seems is even worse than being PC. We now have people who in their ignorance, or stupidity, or both in many cases feel that they have an entitlement to attack anyone who dares to challenge their madness. They thrive on their freedom of expression to attack society that gives them the very system that affords them those freedoms. However, what is even more maddening is that these same rights that they enjoy attacking others, they wish to revoke to those who stand up to them. That’s their kind of equality, I guess!

At the Golden Globes, Ricky Gervais tore into the ‘wokes’. He said, "You're in no position to lecture the public about anything, you know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg". He dared to look the fake outrage celebrities in the eye and tell them some home truths. They laughed, nervously, knowing that any one of them could be next to get roasted.

It seems the cult of protest is a full time occupation for many. Whether it’s anti-Brexit, anti-Tories, anti-Jews, Kashmir, climate change and extinction rebellion, anti-Trump or whatever. When Brexiters dared to stand up, the remainers threw insults and abuse. When that failed, Brexiters were called racist – all 17.4m of them! Even I was called a racist for supporting Brexit. Can you imagine that? I have faced racism for more than five decades. My generation suffered real extreme racism in public, and we have got todays millennials who think they can lecture us about racism? Extend this madness and witness the rise of antisemitism that is being promoted mostly by the far-left. Yes, you read that correctly, it’s the far-left that is the real danger to our society today.

The silent majority that don’t get the airtime, are now voting to show their intent. Boris, Trump and Modi won because the silent majority have had enough of extreme socialists and so called ‘liberals’. Don’t be too surprised to see this same pattern repeat across the globe.

When the power of media, the celebrities, the academics and the politicians ignore the majority, it’s only a matter of time before there is a reaction. We are lucky that this reaction has been via the ballot box. However, push this envelope further and don’t be too surprised if it takes a nasty turn.

I came across this quote, ‘I tend to become uncomfortable around all ideologies that brand themselves as “the truth” or “the only way”. This not only includes most religions, but also atheism, radical bi-partisan politics or any system of thought, including “woke” culture, that finds its energy in self-righteous belief and the suppression of contrary systems of thought. Regardless of the virtuous intentions of many woke issues, it is its lack of humility and the paternalistic and doctrinal sureness of its claims that repel me’. I leave it to you to find out who said it.
