The University of Birmingham will be welcoming the BBC, The Guardian and Sky News onto their campus for a series of events and debates, aimed to help students, staff and local residents get the information they need for the upcoming elections. The event started on 21st April 2015.
On 24th April, The Big Asian Election Debate hosted by the BBC Asian Network will be taking place. The debate will be broadcasted two days later across 14 BBC local radio stations, as well as the News Channel. It will be hosted by BBC Asian Network presenter, Nihal.
This event is taking place to help the British Asian community decide which party they should vote for.
There will be Shahrar Ali (Green Party), Zuffar Haq (Liberal Democrats), Shabana Mahmood (Labour), Priti Patel (Conservative) and Tariq Mahmood (UKIP) at the event.
The Guardian's “You Talk, They Listen”, will be taking place on 27th April. This event will be focussing on immigration as it is one of the important issues for voters for the general elections. This event will be hosted by presenter, Rick Edwards.
The final event will be by Sky News, on 28th April. “Stand Up Be Counted” General Election tour will visit the University campus. They will be available throughout the day. They will also have events including live broadcasts as well as an interactive stand for students and the public to engage with politics.
