Polish driver arrested after police discovers 17 illegal immigrants in lorry

A polish lorry driver was arrested after 17 illegal immigrants from Vietnam were found in the back of his vehicle.

A passing motorist grew suspicious while driving on the M25 in Hertfordshire and called the police.

All the 17 Vietnamese men found at the back of the lorry were arrested and taken into custody.

If the driver is found responsible for bringing the migrants into Britain, he could face a fine of £36,000, up to to £2,000 for each migrant.

The incident comes after weeks of upheaving tensions at Calais, as thousands have attempted to enter the UK via the Channel Tunnel.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Police revealed, “Police were called shortly after 4pm on August 8 following reports of suspicious activity on a lorry on the M25 in Hertfordshire. The member of the public who made the call followed the lorry which made its was on the M1 before police stopped it close to Junction 9 of the M1. The driver of the lorry, a 40-year-old man from Poland, has been arrested on suspicion of assisting people entering the UK unlawfully.”
