With the increase in the number of coronavirus cases, Prime Minister Boris Johnson appears to be preparing the country for a series of “local lockdowns” to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Opposed to another national lockdown, people in Merseyside, Warrington, Halton and the parts of Lancashire not already under tightened restrictions will not be allowed to mix with people outside their household in homes or gardens. Pubs and restaurants will also be expected to shut at 22:00 BST. But these restrictions will exclude Blackpool as coronavirus rates in that region are lower than in the rest of the country.
Residents in Bradford, Kirklees, Calderdale, Wolverhampton, Oadby and Wigston will also be banned from socialising with other people outside of their own households or support bubble in private homes and gardens. Similar pub curfews and restrictions on people are introduced in Northumberland, Newcastle, Sunderland, North and South Tyneside, Gateshead and County Durham.
Households in Birmingham, Solihull and Sandwell are also not allowed to mix with anyone they do not live with in their home or garden unless they are in their support bubble.
People in Greater Manchester including Salford, Bury and the City of Manchester, cannot mix with those from outside their household or support bubble. Visitor limitations have been placed on care homes in Bolton, while hospitality venues will only be able to serve takeaways and must close between 22:00 and 05:00 BST.
People in Oldham, Blackburn with Darwen and Pendle should not meet anyone from outside their household outdoors. In Leicester, people cannot host anyone they do not live with in their home or garden unless they are in their support bubble.
The situation in all these regions will be regularly reviewed and restrictions will only be eased when the number of infections falls.
