Two men from Leicester and Birmingham, both 21 years of age, were detained at their homes and arrested on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts.
The pair were questioned by Counter Terrorism detectives at a police station in the West Midlands after being detained under PACE (Police and Criminal Evidence Act) legislation.
In a statement, police said, “West Midlands Counter Terrorism detectives have arrested two men today on suspicion of terrorism offences. The men – both aged 21 and from Leicester and Birmingham – were arrested from their respective home addresses on suspicion of preparing for terrorist acts. They are being questioned at a police station in West Midlands after being detained under PACE legislation. The arrests were intelligence-led and there was no immediate threat to the public.”
