Man charged over Umesh Parekh stabbing

A man has been charged with murder after a fatal stabbing at a Birmingham park. Umesh Parekh was stabbed in Waverhill Park in Handsworth at around 10.20am on June 19. He died shortly after being taken to hospital by ambulance.

Police investigating the attack have since charged Ranjit Singh, from Clarence Road in Handsworth , with the murder of the 34-year-old.

Singh, 41, was arrested by police on June 21 and detained under the Mental Health Act. He appeared before Birmingham Crown Court on Monday (December 12) to face the charge before being remanded back to a secure mental health establishment under section 48 of the Mental Health Act.
