This is the man who stabbed a 30-year-old as he walked in the city centre - then went to a police station and confessed.
Rajesh Khunti attacked Dilovan Mohammed on March 8. Mr Mohammed was found in London Road with the emergency services believing he had been hurt in a hit-and-run. He was taken to hospital, where he died. A post-mortem examination found he had suffered a stab wound which punctured his lung and trachea.
Last Wednesday Khunti, 30, of Kinley Road, Beaumont Leys, Leicester, admitted a charge of manslaughter after a murder charge was dropped. He was sentenced to life in prison and will serve a minimum term of five years before being considered for release by a parole board.
Det Chief Insp Martin Smalley of East Midlands Special Operations Unit major crime team, said: “Khunti chose to carry a knife and he chose to use it that fateful day. There is no excuse for carrying a weapon. This case is another example of how a life can be lost, so quickly and suddenly."
