A young father who robbed a £5,000 watch was executed by its owner in a drive-by shooting - just days after he offered to return the diamond-encrusted Cartier timepiece to his killer.

Police remain mystified as to a motive for the shocking killing of Carl Campbell after three men were convicted of murdering the father-of-one as he sat in his car at traffic lights last Christmas.

But a Birmingham Mail investigation on Sunday revealed the tragic chain of events that lead to teenage gunman Mohammed Humza, 19, and his accomplices Jaspal Rai, 24, and Vikesh Chauhan, 24, to target Mr Campbell in West Bromwich town centre on December 27.

All three men, of no fixed abode, were convicted of murder at Wolverhampton Crown Court and are facing life behind bars when sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court Tuesday.
