A 14-year-old teenage boy, who had stabbed his science supply teacher, Vincent Uzomah (50), in the stomach with a kitchen knife, at Dixons Kings Academy, has been sentenced to 11 years in youth detention. The court heard how the attack was possibly racially motivated.
The teenager admitted a charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to Vincent Uzomah.
It is said that the incident followed a disagreement over a mobile phone. After the attack, the teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, ran off and after a six-hour search, the police found him in Bradford city centre.
Bradford Crown Court heard how the teenager had used the “N” word before stabbing Uzomah in the stomach.
Prosecutor Jonathan Sharp, told the court that boy was described as “disruptive and a bully” by others, and how he had taken a dislike to Vincent Uzomah.
Jonathan Sharp said, “He did not show any especial hostility to other teachers. Mr Uzomah, however, is black. The defendant disliked him, claiming he couldn't teach, and freely referred to him by the epithet beginning with the letter n, including saying it in anger just before he attacked him. The Crown's case in consequence is that the attack was, at least in part, racially motivated.”
The court was also informed how the teenager was allegedly a heavy cannabis user and was on bail at the time of the attack, and how he had discussed his plans to stab the science teacher with other students.
After attacking the supply teacher, the teenager had boasted about what he had done on Facebook, receiving 69 Likes from people.
