On 27th October, 2014 the Rang De UK Chapter President Rohit Parakh and key member of the UK Chapter and Lambeth Labour Councillor Neil Sabharwal, met Lord Dholakia, the Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats in the House of Lords and a senior Indian Diaspora leader in UK.
Lord Dholakia has agreed to become the Patron of Rang De’s UK Chapter and had a very fruitful discussion with Neil and Rohit as to ways on increasing Rang De’s visibility in UK with a focus on media engagement and connecting to the wider Indian Diaspora amongst other topics.
Rang De is a non-profit organization committed to fighting poverty by providing access to affordable micro loans to underserved communities in India working on a model of microcredit, peer-to-peer lending and crowdfunding. It has so far facilitated £2.52 Million of loan to micro-entrepreneurs in India with loan sizes generally ranging between £50-£150 with a maximum loan interest rate of 10%. Each individual can contribute my making a loan of Rs 100 onwards (~£1). The loan repayment rate so far on the loans has been 99.75%.
