Soap Star Joins Walk to Raise Diabetes Awareness

Famous actress Nina Wadia together with Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP the founder and patron of the Silver Star Diabetes charity took part in the Annual Fun Walk on Sunday 7th September from Metro Bank Edgware, High Street. The aim of the event was to raise money for the charity to continue raising awareness of Type II diabetes.

Harrow has one of the highest diabetes rates in London. It is estimated that in 2012, 9.2% of people aged 16 and over had (diagnosed and undiagnosed) diabetes in the borough. This figure is expected to rise to 10.8% by 2020.

Silver Star Diabetes charity have recently opened a new office in Harrow and held free diabetes checks at the civic centre.

Nina Wadia said: “This was an outstanding event. I am pleased that I was able to continue to support Silver Star’s great work and know that the money raised will help save lives.”

Diabetes is a chronic condition caused by too much glucose in the blood. Over 3 million people are diagnosed with diabetes in the UK. More than one million people are unaware they have the illness.
