Pravasi Bharat Group organises Indian Independence Day at Tavistock Square

The Pravasi Bharat Group organised a flag hoisting event and celebration for India's 69th Independence Day on the beautiful Saturday morning of 15th August at Tavistock Square, London in front of the Gandhi Statue which was attended by over 100 people.

The event was graced by Shri S.S. Sidhu, Honourable Minister Coord, High Commission of India, London who congratulated the spirit with which the Pravasi Bharat youth has gotten involved in celebrating Independence Day. Anchored by Rohit Parakh, the function also saw felicitations for Shri S.S. Sidhu, Shri Lalubhai Parekh, Kamal Voruganti. It was attended by many dignitaries including CB Patel, Publisher/Editor of Asian Voice and Gujarat Samachar.

The event witnessed a number of heart-rendering patriotic song performances by active community members Mounica Bojja, Richa Kalra, Manoshee Gupta amongst others. However the chief attraction of the event was the role play by children who play-acted world leaders who were inspired by Gandhiji including Barack Obama, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King amongst others.

Pravasi Bharat's founder Nagender Chindam's plea for remote ballot for Non Resident Indians from outside of India in the elections in India has been accepted by Supreme Court and is in the form of a draft bill with the Indian government currently under Representation of People Act, 1951 and Information Technology Act, 2000.
