A couple have been fined £20,000 for failure to licence a property in Brent and to maintain it to an acceptable standard.

Gharmesh and Gita Khatri did not meet the council’s legal requirement to licence a shared accommodation rental property and were prosecuted at Willesden Magistrates Court on 1 March 2016.

The conviction is part of the council’s ‘ramped up’ enforcement drive to ensure that all landlords with unlicensed properties are held to account and are not renting out substandard, squalid and overcrowded accommodation that are blighting our local communities.

All private landlords who let out shared accommodation to 3 or more people with one of them not being related to the others needs to be licenced.
