A teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of 20-year-old Syed Jamanoor Islam, in Mile End in a fight over eggs being thrown.
The convict will have to serve a minimum of 16 years for stabbing Syed Jamanoor Islam outside the victim's home in Wagner Street, on 11th April 2017.
Inner London Crown Court heard Nayeem Chowdhury, 18, from Mile End, and Samiur Rahman, 19, from Bethnal Green, had thrown eggs in as a joke at Syed's brother, but the eggs had landed on the victim's front door.
The joke was considered as an act of disrespect and led to the tyre's of Chowdhury's car being slashed, and hence a fight broke out in which Rahman was assaulted. CCTV footage reveal that after the fight, the three suspects allegedly drove around Wagner Street looking for Syed's brother and were armed with a baseball batt and a hunting knife.
It is said that when Syed confronted Chowdhury, Ismail Muhammad Uddin, 18, from Canary Wharf, allegedly hit him with a baseball bat and the 16-year-old accused stabbed Syed in his leg. The wound pierced the femoral artery and vein, hence, Syed sadly passed away at the scene.
Chowdhury, Rahman and Uddin were jailed for 18 months each.
Detective Chief Inspector, Tony Lynes led the investigation. After the sentencing, he said, “Today's sentencing is the culmination of a needless set of events in which Jamanoor lost his life; a trivial dispute escalating into murder. As a result a 16-year-old boy has been imprisoned, and Jamanoor's family have been left broken by the brutal manner of his death. I can only hope this sentencing serves as a small comfort to Jamanoor's family as they attempt to move on with their lives without him, and also as a warning to any other young people thinking about carrying and using a knife that the consequences can be catastrophic.”
