Hospital consultants forced to work on weekends

Health secretary, Jeremy Hunt, is to lay down an ultimatum to the doctors' union, ordering that they discuss a radical improvement of hours and pays or face having new terms imposed.

Hunt announced that hospital consultants will have to work on weekends.

Jeremy Hunt will claim that 6,000 patients die unnecessarily per year due to the lack of an adequate seven-day service at hospitals. According to the research in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, It is said that patients are 16% more likely to die in hospital on a Sunday, compared to being admitted during the week.
