Hundreds of people including those representing several Indian organisations joined demonstrations outside BBC studios in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle and Glasgow, to protest against what they termed as a “poorly researched, biased and anti-India” documentary on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aired in two parts on BBC.
The protesters demanded an independent inquiry into the series aired last month and carried placards calling for a boycott of the corporation, alleging it is spreading “communal division” in the UK.
Organisations behind the UK wide protests included Overseas Friends of BJP (OFBJP) UK), Friends of India Society International (FISI) UK, National Council of Hindu Temples UK (NCHTUK), Hindu Council UK (HCUK), Vishwa Hindu Kendra Southall, Hindu Forum of Britain (HFB), REACH UK, Indian Diaspora UK (IDUK) and Insight UK.
The BBC has however defended the programme saying it has “rigorously researched according to the highest editorial standards”.
