It is said that David Cameron may be planning to ban WhatsApp, Snapchat and iMessage in the near future.

These popular apps could be banned under the new laws as they use encrypted messages. The government believes that this is a potential security concern that ought to be tackled. The Home Secretary, Theresa May, is hoping to get these types of apps with the controversial “snooper's charter”, also known as the Draft Communications Data Bill.

Theresa May intends to bring forward a new version on the bill in autumn and it seems more than likely that the new law will be put in place next year.

However, WhatsApp, Snapchat and iMessage are likely to remain if they meet the criteria of the new restrictions.
