Brigadier Susan Ridge has been appointed by the British Army as its first ever female major general; she will be the service's chief legal advisor.

Brig Ridge will take over as Director General Army Legal Services (DGALS) in September, as she became the Army's highest ranking female officer.

The 52-year-old mother of one joined the army in 1992 and was the only female in her battalion. She is married to a fellow officer.

Brig Ridge said, “I feel very honoured and privileged to have been given this opportunity.” However, she also admitted that she felt “slightly daunted as well.”
