Momlette stands as a unique brunch destination, channelling the vibrant essence of Bengal street food culture. The culinary focus here revolves around crafting delectable Asian street food-inspired breakfast and brunch offerings.
The idea behind Momlette is to bring the best of both Bengali and British flavours under one roof, offering a unique and diverse dining experience that caters to all taste preferences and schedules.
The interiors and the exteriors of your restaurant are quite perky and quirky, making the place famous amongst the customers. “We take pride in our aesthetic and pay close attention to the appearance of our store. We want the store to look quaint and charming, and I'm proud to say that our customers often take pictures of our store, both inside and out. Personally, my favourite features are the tabletop carrom boards and our hand-made bamboo stools which is a staple feature in every Bengali home!”, founders Sonny Shahnawaz and Shabo Hussain said.
The café also hosts many events in order to provide. Last month, renowned DJ and producer Shy FX had his single launch party at Momlette. Describing the event, Sonny and Shubo said, “He took over our store for the day and performed an incredible live set of classics and new songs alike for our customers. It was an amazing day, full of sunshine and smiles and, of course, our signature bagels.”
The founders take pride in representing Bengali cuisine through their outfit. They are of the opinion that “Bengali cuisine has undergone a delightful transformation over recent decades, embracing modern influences while preserving its authentic roots. In the hustle and bustle of our fast-paced world, it's now not just confined to home kitchens but also thrives in the vibrant restaurant and café culture, like ours here at Momlette.”
Food is the heart and soul of any culture and Momlette believes it tells an incredible story. Expanding on the story they are aiming to tell with the café, Sonny and Shubo said, “Our fusion dishes narrate the tale of harmonious coexistence, where Bengali and British flavours come together to create a delightful culinary journey, representing the cultural diversity of East London's vibrant community. Through food, we celebrate the rich heritage and shared experiences of our patrons, bringing people together one flavourful bite at a time.”
Among our standout creations, the Momlette’s Momlette takes centre stage, accompanied by the distinctive Half-English breakfast. Additionally, skilfully prepared classic favourites like Eggs Benedict alongside an array of traditional choices are also much loved. Complementing the culinary delights, the café’s locally-sourced chai, specialty coffee, and refreshing chilled beverages, ensure a well-rounded and satisfying dining experience.
