WASHINGTON: Ashwin Ramaswami, 24, has emerged as the first Gen Z Indian American to vie for a seat in a US State legislature, making waves with a staggering fundraising achievement of over $280,000. This substantial figure, especially at the state level, underscores the growing momentum behind Ramaswami’s campaign for the State Senate in Georgia’s District 48, the media has opined.

Ramaswami’s fundraising prowess comes to the fore as he outstrips his incumbent opponent, Shawn Still, by a remarkable 22 times in the latest filing period from February 1 to April 30.

“Our latest reports are further evidence that our community values honesty and integrity in our leadership above all,” asserted Ramaswami, a second-generation Indian American with a background in software engineering, election security, and technology law and policy research. “We’ve built a grassroots campaign with unprecedented momentum to ensure we elect a leader who will serve our communities first and foremost: funding our schools, supporting our small businesses, preparing us for the technology of the future, and protecting the right to vote.”

Ramaswami’s campaign platform emphasizes the need for principled leadership and community-centric governance, contrasting sharply with his opponent’s record. “Our community will never forget Shawn Still’s utter lack of leadership and integrity when he tried to overturn Georgians’ votes in 2020,” asserted Ramaswami, referring to Still’s involvement in attempts to overturn election results.

Ashwin’s opponent, Senator Shawn Still, currently faces a seven-count indictment for his role in the false elector meeting, where conspiracy theorists sought to overturn the results of the 2020 election for Donald Trump. “Experience matters significantly, and it’s clear that Shawn Still has the wrong kind of experience,” added Ramaswami.

Ramaswami’s bid for the State Senate has garnered notable support, including an endorsement from Congresswoman Lucy McBath of Georgia’s seventh Congressional district.
