With Pakistan raging over the alleged rape and murder of an eight year old girl, a woman news anchor found a unique way of protesting the despicable incident. Samaa TV presenter Kiran Naz hosted a news bulletin today with her daughter, as she delivered a statement on the events following the alleged abduction, rape and killing of Zainab Ansari.

“Today I am not your host Kiran Naz. I am a mother and that is why I am sitting here with my daughter. It is said that the smaller the corpse, the heavier it feels. Today, a tiny corpse is lying on the streets of Kasur and the entire Pakistan is crushed under its weight... This day marks the funeral of humanity,” Naz said. The victim was kidnapped on January 4, only for her body to be found five days later in a garbage pile. The girl's parents, who were in Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah, flew back to the country and told the media that they would not bury their daughter until her killer was arrested.

Regional Police Officer Zulffiqar Hameed said, “The girl's body was found from a heap of garbage in Saddar area of the city. Initial autopsy report suggests that the girl was strangulated after rape.” Four suspects have been taken into custody. The whole of Pakistan erupted today over police inaction after reports of the incident began to do the rounds on social media. Protesters pelted stones at the police station, offices of district police officer and district coordination officer in Kasur. The city observed a complete shut down.

Film and sports leaders have demanded that the killer be caught and the military offered support to the police. Lahore High Court Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah took notice of the murder and has sought a report from the Punjab government.
