Indian sentenced to life for arranging wife's killing

California: Shanker Chhaganbahi Patel, an Indian-American, was sentenced to life in prison for orchestrating his wife Usha's murder 25 years ago in San Dimas. Usha Patel, the Zambia-born mother of three young children, was just 29 when she was stabbed 24 times on Nov. 19, 1991, in the garage of her San Dimas home. According to the prosecution, Patel hired Stanley Medina, to kill his wife. Medina then hired Miguel Garcia to do the bidding. Garcia pleaded guilty three years ago, and is serving a life sentence. Medina was initially charged with pre-meditated murder and later the murder charges were dropped and Medina pleaded guilty to the lesser crime. He was sentenced to nine years in prison.

Trump's spy pick 'shocked' by Indian satellites

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump's top spymaster nominee has said he was "shocked" to know that India successfully launched over 100 satellites in one go, asserting that America cannot afford to be seen lagging behind. "I was shocked the other day to read that India, on one rocket launch, deposited more than 100 satellites in space," former Senator Dan Coats told lawmakers during his confirmation hearing for the position of Director of National Intelligence. "They may be small in size with different functions and so forth but one rocket can send up, I think it was 104 platforms," said Coats.

Pak group carried out Mumbai attack: EX-Pakistan NSA

NEW DELHI: Former Pakistan National Security Adviser Mahmud Ali Durrani has nailed Islamabad's role in Mumbai terror attacks. Speaking at an event, Durrani said that the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks was carried out by a terror group based in Pakistan. "The 26/11 attack is a classic trans-border terrorist event," Durrani said. The former Pakistan NSA also hit out at Hafiz Saeed. "Hafiz Saeed has no utility, we should act against him," he said.

Palestinian woman dies after giving birth to 69 children

East Jerusalem: A 40 year old woman in Palestine breathed her last after giving birth to 69 children. Her husband confirmed this news. If one were to go by global records, the deceased mother of 69 was the most fertile woman in the world. She was at par with a Russian Guinness World Record holder named Vassilyeva, who had also given birth to 69 children. Vassilyeva gave birth to 16 pairs of twins, seven sets of triplets and four sets of quadruplets, in 27 different childbirths.

Temporary ban on Bangladeshis from working in Bahrain

Manama: The Bangladeshi embassy in Bahrain has announced a temporary ban on issuing permission for its nationals to work in the Arabian nation until the problems faced by them in the country are solved. The decision was enforced from March 1 because of violations of the rights of Bangladeshis in Bahrain, while the ban will be lifted after reaching an agreement with Bahrainian authorities that could safeguards the best interests of workers. An official from the embassy said that the embassy received no less than 50 complaints from Bangladeshis on a daily basis, majority of those related to not receiving salaries on time.
