Colombo: Sri Lanka's tourism ministry has recently launched new packages to encourage Indian tourists. A total of five new packages has been released by Sri Lanka Tourism for Indian tourists travelling to Sri Lanka, which aims to lift tourism that has seen a rapid drop since the Easter attacks this year. The number of Indian tourists dropped to 9,300 after the attacks, from 2.3 million in 2018. The attacks on April 21, 2019 had left 258 dead, and ever since that catastrophic event, tourism had declined in the country by almost 70 per cent.

The new initiative to attract more Indian tourists has been launched by Sri Lanka Tourism, in collaboration with Sri Lankan Airlines, Hotels Association of Sri Lanka, and also inbound tour operators. The packages basically offer discounted rates for exploring the beautiful country, and the discounts range from 30 to 60 per cent. Also, the packages include airfare, accommodation, transport, and other facilities.

The tour packages are being extended to 12 Indian cities with 123 flights every week, and you can get a combination of the best of Sri Lanka, such as Colombo, Knady, Nuwara, Eliya, Sigiriya, and the South Coast. You can pick your favourite option from the range of budgets listed, and the offer is only valid from June 10 to September 30, 2019. Sri Lanka Tourism is also doing promotions in Delhi and Mumbai to attract potential travellers.
