79 Bangla Hindus said to have been killed in 6 last months

Dhaka: Govinda Chandra Pramanik, secretary-general of the Bangladesh Jatiya Hindu Mahajot, claimed that 79 Hindus were killed and £2.6 million looted from them and temples from January 1 to June 30 this year. He added that 620 people were threatened with death, 145 murder attempts were made and 183 people were injured in attacks and 32 people were missing.

Addressing a press conference in Dhaka, he said that the information was collected through the branch committees of the organization all over the country. The Mahajot demanded 60 reserved seats for the minority Hindu community in the National Assembly and the “re-establishment” of a separate electoral system to prevent violence against Hindus.

According to the report, during the last 6 months, 468 Hindu houses were vandalized and looted, 343 were set on fire, 93 Hindu businesses were attacked, 2159.36 acres of Hindu land were seized and 419.63 acres were on the process of being seized. Besides, attempts were made to evict 717 Hindu families.

According to the report, there have been 501 organized attacks on Hindus, 56 temples attacked and 50 idol were looted. In addition, 97 members of the Hindu community have been arrested, dismissed and jailed in fake cases, 802 families have been socially boycotted, 57 religious institutions have been desecrated, 60 religious ceremonies have been obstructed, and 100 people have been forcefully fed religiously forbidden beef.
