In a late incident that makes us wonder just how intolerant our country has become, a youth was beaten to a pulp and tied down to a window of a running train coach. All for what? Drinking water without permission.

In a complaint filed by victim Sumti Kacchi, 25, he boarded coach S-2 of the Patliputra Express (Patna-Mumbai), from hometown Jabalpur. Thirsty, he drank some water from a fellow passenger's bottle who was travelling to Mumbai for an exam, along with his friends. The mere action infuriated the accused so bad, they stopped the train between Jabalpur and Itarsi stations, tied Kacchi's leg to the outer side of the window with his head down and beat him up. If that wasn't enough, eye witnesses said they even forced the youth to travel in that position for over four hours.

Itarsi station in-charge, PK Joshi said the accused were arrested the same day the incident was brought to light. “Vicky, 24, Ravi, 25, and Balram, 24, from Patna, were arrested on the complaint of the victim Sumit Kacchi, for assault and other offences on March 25 itself.” It took some vendors who got onto the coach at Itarsi, to free Sumit. Eye witnesses also said the group of boys beat him with belts at the station too. A complaint was been filed with the Government Railway Police which lead to the youths' arrest at the station. However, Joshi said the victim had not mentioned being tied up at the window, and the incident was only highlighted after the video, shot by one of the vendors, surfaced.
