CHENNAI: India's first transgender sub-inspector Prithika Yashini, 25, has become one of the 1,038 trainees of the rank to complete the year-long course at Tamil Nadu Police Academy. Certificates were distributed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, who urged the state police to be proactive and people-friendly, but to act tough with anti-social elements. "Policemen should realise that law is not a weapon, but an effective tool for the safety of people," he said. Yashini, who has face several trials to reach at her position, told reporters that she was very happy to complete her training. "Both men and women training to be sub-inspectors were very cooperative, helpful, and friendly with me," she said.
