Hyderabad: Intelligence agencies have arrested an Indian woman after she was deported from the UAE for alleged involvement with the IS. The 38 year old Afsha Jabeen has been posing as a British national trying to lure young man and woman into joining the terror outfit.

Afsha was taken into custody at the city airport after nine months of surveillance from India, the UAE and Britain. Jabeen would first send literature and other propaganda through Facebook groups to motivate Indians to join the terrorist group and later coerce them. Afsha's name first surfaced when police arrested Salman Mohiuddin, a US trained engineer from Hyderabad, minutes before he was to board a flight to Dubai with plans to join IS. During interrogation, Salman confessed that he was indoctrinated by Afsha alias Nicky Joseph to join her in Dubai. Afsha had laid out plans for Salman's travel to Syria through Turkey. Afsha had told Salman that she was a British national living in Dubai and was married to cardiologist Aforaly Paul. On monitoring her online activity and cross-verifying details with external intelligence agencies of UAE and UK, it was realised that Nicky Joseph was none other than Afsha Jabeen of Tolichowki.

It is believed that her husband Devender, who had converted to Islam, has no IS links and it is not clear how Afsha got influenced by IS and began working as one of the outfit's online recruiters. “Devender knew very little about her IS links,” said an intelligence official.
