Chennai: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has recently started a protest over a demand for complete ban on liquor in Tamil Nadu. Party workers and leaders were seen shouting slogans and holding placards demanding ban on alcohol, across the state. While all major opposition parties in the state have united to prompt a complete ban on the sale of alcohol, ruling party, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, has remained particularly silent on the issue. DMK President M Karunanidhi's recent proposal to take steps to implement prohibition if voted to power in the coming elections has been met with contempt from both the AIADMK and the PMK, who insisted that the DMK government in 1971 had first removed the prevailing dry regime despite veteran Swatantra Party leader C Rajagopalachary's fervent plea against it.
