DMK leader moves HC challenging EWS quota

CHENNAI: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) organising secretary RS Bharathi has filed a writ petition in the Madras High Court challenging the validity of a recent amendment made to the Constitution granting 10 per cent reservations for the economically weaker sections of society. Senior Counsel P Wilson, representing the petitioner, mentioned the matter before a division bench of Justices S Manikumar and Subramanioum Prasad and the judges agreed to hear the case. Bharathi in his affidavit, stated that reservations in education and public employment were provided under the Constitution for the uplift of the oppressed and backward classes and to end caste-based discrimination in existence in the country.
