Customs department said that all exhibition material or consignments related to Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) and Vibrant Gujarat Summit, arriving at the air cargo complex in Ahmedabad would be cleared on priority basis. “Customs will be proactive and clearance of items arriving for the exhibition in PBD and VGS will be faster,” said Rakesh Misra, chief commissioner, Customs, Gujarat zone.
Customs department has also set up a facilitation desk at the passenger terminals of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport for officials of countries participating in the two events. According to officials of Gujarat State Export Cargo Ltd (GSECL) which manages air cargo at the city airport, around 25 to 30 tonnes of material related to exhibitions during PBD and VGS is expected to arrive.
“The materials include cutting-edge technological items and machinery, among other things. Consignments arriving for conventions or exhibitions do not attract any duty,” said a Customs official.
