Karthiyaniamma Krishnapilla, a 96-year-old woman of the Muttom village in Alappuzha, Kerala has topped Class IV exams. Out of the 43,300 students, Karthiyaniamma topped in class IV test scoring 98 out of 100 in the exam conducted by the Kerala Literacy Mission Authority.
Karthiyaniamma used to work as a cleaning staff in a few temples nearby and had never gone to school. But now she knows how to read, write and even calculate. But for the woman this is just the beginning. She now want to learn English as well.
"My great grand children are studying in an English medium school. I also want to learn English!"
For her outstanding achievement, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will award her a merit certificate at the Chief Minister's Conference hall.
