Nineteen people were killed and 25 others injured when a container truck rammed into a Kerala state transport bus on Tirupur-Salem bypass in Tamil Nadu. The deceased included five women and the two driver-cum-conductors of the multi-axle luxury bus of the Bengaluru-Ernakulam bus. The overnight bus was hit by the truck laden with over 25 tonnes of floor tiles coming from the opposite lane hit the median, flew over to the other side and collided with the bus. Such was the impact that the right side of the bus was completely torn off till near its middle. All but one of the deceased hail from Kerala. The truck driver was arrested. The bus was going to Ernakulam from Bengaluru.
