13 of family killed in Karnataka tempo crash

Thirteen members of an extended family, including two children, were killed and four others injured when their recently purchased Tempo Traveller crashed into a sugar-laden truck at high speed in Karnataka’s Haveri while returning from a temple trip. “While 11 were killed on the spot, two died after they were taken to hospital,” said SP Anshu Kumar Srivastava about the crash on Pune-Bengaluru National Highway 48 in Byadagi taluk. Chief minister Siddaramaiah announced a Rs 200,000 compensation for the next of kin of each person killed, while district in-charge minister Shivanand Patil made a personal contribution of Rs 50,000 to the family of each deceased. Two of the injured were said to be critical in a Shivamogga hospital. “A total of 17 people were in the vehicle when it collided with the truck.
