Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurveda Ltd announced that it has halted the sale of 14 products following the immediate suspension of their manufacturing licences by the Uttarakhand state licensing authority. The company informed the Supreme Court that it had directed its 1,606 franchise stores to withdraw these products.

Patanjali also reported to the apex court that media platforms have been instructed to remove advertisements for these 14 products in all formats. A bench comprising Justices Hima Kohli and Sandeep Mehta is scheduled to hear the matter on July 30.

The Uttarakhand state licensing authority stated in an affidavit that the cancellation order was issued due to “repeated violations” of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. On April 30, the authority suspended the manufacturing licenses of 14 products made by Patanjali Ayurveda Ltd and Divya Pharmacy with immediate effect.

The Supreme Court is currently hearing a plea filed by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) which alleges that Patanjali Ayurveda conducted a smear campaign against the Covid vaccination drive and modern systems of medicine.

The top court had reserved its order on May 14 regarding the contempt notice issued to yoga guru Ramdev, his aide Balkrishna, and Patanjali Ayurved Ltd in the misleading advertisements case.
