Pakistan yet again violated ceasefire along the Line of Control today morning, at Pukharni village in Nowshera sector of Jammu and Kashmir. Police informed that the heavy firing cost the life of a women. The Pak army initially resorted to firing by small arms, later turning to heavy mortar shells, as informed by the police.
The Rajgouri district administration ordered closure of schools in villages near the LoC, following the act. Deputy Commissioner of the district has directed to the essential services departments to be alert in the wake of the expected migration. Official machinery has also been asked to be in a state of alert. Embroiled in controversies, the Valley region has been witnessing steady conflicts for the past few weeks with school students protesting since April 15. In the most recent brutal attack, a young Kashmiri Army officer was killed by militants in Shopian district.
Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi said he will visit Jammu and Kashmir today to take stock of the situation. He is also scheduled to meet Governor NN Vohra, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and hold discussions with them about the prevailing situation in the state. Protests were triggered when police raided a government degree college in Pulwama in different parts of Kashmir. Students continue to clash with security forces, mainly in Pulwama district. Speaking at a press interaction, CM Mufti said the students were “angry and disillusioned” and that “there are some who throw stones, but not all the youth from Kashmir do so.”
She said some students were being “provoked”. “Some are being provoked. I think we should all work together to resolve this situation.” For now, the situation seems to be spiralling out of control, as the locals, with the aid of militants and Pakistan, continue to clash and protest against Indian forces.
