On the eve of Gujarat's second round of voting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi travelled there to get his mother Hiraba's blessing. The PM voted at Nishan School in Ahmedabad's Ranip neighbourhood, where he is a registered voter.
The PM spent some time with mother Hiraba, who stays with her younger son Pankaj Modi at Raysan in Gandhinagar. He chatted with her over a cup of tea and sought her blessings before leaving her home.
The Prime Minister then travelled to the state party's headquarters in Kamalam, where he met home minister Amit Shah, chief minister Bhupendra Patel, state BJP president C R Paatil and other officials.
Sources revealed that the PM was briefed by party leaders about steps being taken to ensure maximum voting, especially in the urban areas which went to polls on Monday. There was a drop in the voter turnout in the first phase of the election compared to the voter turnout in the first phase of the 2017 assembly poll.
