Tarn Taran (Punjab): Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal who crossed the barbed wire fencing along the India-Pakistan international border in Khalra sector in the border district of Tarn Taran, said no one would be allowed to subvert peace in Punjab. “I am here to assure you that the Punjab government is committed to maintaining peace on the border. Any attempt to destabilise this hard won peace will not be tolerated,” he told farmers and villagers. The comments were in light of the July 27 terror attack from Pakistan, in Gurdaspur district, which left 7 people dead. The state shares a 553 km long international border with Pakistan which is guarded with electrified barbed wire fencing, and is manned by the Border Security Force. In his trip across the fence, he was driven to border areas by Punjab Director General of Police Sumedh Singh Saini.
