Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the need to celebrate the nation's heritage and its hitherto unrecognised unsung brave hearts while calling for the correction of historical inaccuracies that, in his words, were penned as part of a conspiracy during the colonial era.

The grand celebrations commemorating the 400th birth anniversary of legendary Ahom general Lachit Barphukan culminated with a clarion call by the PM to follow the life principle of the hero of the ‘Battle of Saraighat’.

Remembering the great hero from Assam who stalled the march of the Mughals, Modi said, “The history of India is not just about slavery. The history of India is about emerging victorious, it is about the valour of countless greats. India’s history is about standing against tyranny with unprecedented valour and courage.”

"Our collective perspective of history should not be constrained to a few centuries or decades," he remarked at the valedictory speech. He also advocated for the north-eastern area to serve as the centre of India's growth narrative.

Sadly, the history that was written as part of a plot during the colonial era, according to the PM, was still taught even after India gained her independence. "After independence, there was a need to modify the goals of the foreigners who had made us their slaves, but this did not occur. As per Modi, the accounts of ferocious anti-tyranny resistance in every region of the nation were purposefully repressed.
